How to identify an audience before you begin to write an essay
Before you begin writing your essay and start organizing your information. You must pay keen attention to the audience you are writing for. Getting your idea across is as important as using appropriate semantics.An equity analysis report for a newly issued stock is written differently than a magazine article written for fashion conscious teens. This distinction must seem obvious, and it may seem stupid that we are even pointing this out. But it is the subtleties of this process, that makes the difference.
Following is the process we recommend you take:
Age Group
This is pretty self explanatory. If you are audience are baby boomers; avoid discussion on Justin Bieber', short skirts, apple bottom jeans, whale tails and Facebook. If your audience are "millennials" discuss Justin Bieber, short skirts, apple bottom jeans, whale tails and how boring Facebook has become.Academic Background
Okay now, this is a huge part of ANY essay. It is really crucial that you understand what your audience understands. You should size up your audience, and if your teacher is a doctorate in behavioral psychology this may be hard to do. Nonetheless, give it your best shot!Many people have asked us this; "How do I write an essay for a person who can't read?" The key to writing for this kind of audience is to determine why s/he can't read. If s/he is not reading your essay because s/he is blind. We recommend you write in braille. If they can't read because they didn't go to school. We recommend you write in Morse Code.
Hobbies or activities
The secret to good writing, is that you learn what the audience for your essay does in their spare time and to hook in their interest and keep them glued to your paper, you mention that topic in your research paper.For instance, say that your teacher likes Van Halen (which he probably does) feel free to end you paper with "I brought my pencil, give me something to write on" (Van Halen, 1984). Remember to write cite properly (in APA) of the album in the reference list as such:
Van Halen. (1984). 1984. California: Warner Music Group.
Citations are important, you don't want to be accused of plagiarism, ever!
